We offer three different flight certificates:

Solo Certificate

Recreational Pilot Certificate

Private Pilot Certificate

Instrument Rating

Commercial Pilot Certificate

Solo Certificate

A Solo flight is defined as:   - - -  “when a student pilot flies an aircraft, safely and competently and completes 3 takeoffs and landings …  “solo” …meaning without an instructor on board.

What are the requirements?

The student must make a commitment to taking lessons on a regular basis; these times are called instructional slots. They must have minimum of at least 10 hours of flight instruction and be “signed off” as qualified by their instructor and the Chief Pilot. There must be near perfect weather conditions.

How much does it Cost? *

A minimum of $1,500.00.

 * This price is the absolute minimum and assumes the best student, cheapest airplane, absolutely perfect training conditions.   It is unlikely that you will do it in the minimums. So much depends on your time commitment, your intensity, your degree of studying, your innate abilities, the frequency of the your instructional slots and a million other things.   But this should give you a general idea of the absolute minimums.

How long does it take?

Meigs operates from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week, year round. You can learn to fly in as little as 5 weeks or take as long as you need, there is no time limit. Some people fly as little as once a month though the recommended schedule is once a week.

Flight lessons must fit into your time schedule and your budget. It will not pay to over commit yourself in either time or money matters and fly inconsistently. A consistent schedule is the best way to learn!

Recreational Pilot Certificate

How do I know that I can learn to fly?

Somewhere there is someone just like you who recently became a pilot. Although the average student pilot is 32 years old, anyone, of any age can start flying lessons.

What are the requirements?

To obtain a Recreational Pilot Certificate, you must be at least 17 years old and have a minimum of 30 flight hours. you must also pass the FAA recreational pilot's written examination (a 60-question, multiple choice test) and a check ride with an FAA examiner.

How much does it Cost?

Flight training costs will vary depending on the instructor, type of airplane and how quickly the student progresses through the program. The national average cost for a recreational pilot course is between $2,000 and $3,000.

Instrument Rating

Why should I earn my Instrument Rating?

If you plan on traveling more than 25 miles from your home airport, an instrument rating is a must.  This is because of the weather.  The Instrument Rating will allow you to fly in all types of weather, with a greater degree of safety and confidence.

What are the requirements?

The Federal Aviation Administration requires at least 40 hours of instrument flight time.
